Marcelle Pierrot has been appointed the new Prefect of Guadeloupe, according to a communique from the French Cabinet.
Pierrot was formerly the Prefect of the department of Vosges in eastern France. She is a native of Trois-Rivieres, Guadeloupe.
Her responsibilities also include being the representative of the state in the communities of Saint-Barthelemy and St Martin.
The Prefect is the representative of the French State in a particular department, under the Minister of the Interior.
Pierrot succeeds Amaury de Saint-Quentin, who had served in the role since August 2011.
