Isarel’s Ambassador to Barbados and the Caribbean Amiram Magid met Thursday with Barbados Health Minister Donville Inniss to discuss collaborations on public health, particularly the increasing regional problem of non-communicable diseases.

Magid pointed out that the two sides had developed “beneficial relationships” over time in areas such as agriculture, security and education, but had not yet formed a partnership in health.

He said health care workers in Barbados could engage in exchanges with Israel’s National Centre for Training in Public Health.

That programme focuses on planning health care for the community by assessing needs for primary health care services. The centre links the clinical responsibility for the individual patient with the public health responsibility for the whole population.

A large number of Bajans and Israelis live with NCDs.

Inniss thanked the Ambassador for Israel’s support of health care measures proposed by Barbados and others in the region at the international level.

Ambassador Magid represents Israel in Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
