Grenada’s government is looking for a partner on a proposed new hospital on the island.

Grenada has officially launched the international tender process to identify a partner for the new Grenada General Hospital, which would replace the existing St George’s General Hospital.

The project would be what the government is billing as a “world class public health care facility,” with a green and clinically appropriate design.

The plan is being implemented by the Ministry of Health with support from the IFC, which is helping the government as its lead transaction advisor.

IFC is being supported by the UK’s Mott MacDonald and Canada’s Heenan Blaike as legal advisors.

As part of the plan, Grenada would look for a partnership with St George’s University.

The project includes 180 patient beds and 14 single/private rooms. Four of those would be in a separate private ward for private patients and medical tourism patients.

Grenada’s government expects to eventually award a contract on the project by the end of the first quarter of 2013.

Construction of the project would occur shortly after that.
