Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez received the credentials Friday of two new ambassadors to the country from Colombia and Guinea-Bissau in a ceremony at the National Palace.

Jabib Char Abdala is the newest ambassador of Colombia, while Abel Coelho de Mendonca is Guinea-Bissau’s new envoy.

Fernandez was accompanied at the ceremony by Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso and Deputy Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Trullols.

Both are longtime diplomats; Coelho de Mendonca was formerly the country’s consul general in Gambia, and its ambassador to Cuba.

Char has been the chairman of the board of several companies in Colombia.
