Haitian Prime Minister Conille, OAS Secretary General Discuss Aid to Haiti

Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille and OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza met yesterday to discuss ways to improve international aid to Haiti and that the international community’s assistance was aligned with the plans of the Haitian government.

Conille was joined at the talks, which were held in Washington, DC, by Simon Dieuseul Desras, President of the Haitian Senate, Richard Morse, Special Envoy of President Michel Martelly and Guy Gerard Georges, president of the Commission on International Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies.

“The best way to make an effective contribution to Haiti is by channeling aid through the authorities that the people have elected to be governed by,” Insulza said.

“It is important to consider that, despite all the difficulties, Haiti has maintained its democracy,” he said. “This is achieved by strengthening and making government more efficient.”

Insulza also said that the OAS would do continue to work to support the government of Haiti.
