Mariano Fernandez Amunategui has been named the next head of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Haiti. Amunategui, a career diplomat, is the special representative of Ban Ki-Moon, secretary general of the United Nations. The force was first sent into Haiti in 2004 after president Jean-Bertrand Aristide was exiled. He is the former Chilean foreign minister. [AP via Washington Post]
