Kitchen Explosion Burns Two at Marriott

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 29, 2015

An explosion burned two hotel employees at the Marriott’s Frenchman’s Reef and Morning Star Beach Resort in St Thomas on Sunday morning.

Upon arrival, fire personnel were escorted by the security staff to the hotel’s kitchen area where they found the fire already out on arrival.

The two hotel employees were both transported by EMS personnel to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital for further observation and treatment, according to a statement from the office of US Virgin Islands Governor Ken Mapp.

They sustained what the Governor’s office described as “burn injuries.”

Contact was made with the Fire Investigative Unit to report to the scene, the Governor’s office said.

It’s not yet clear what caused the kitchen explosion or its degree.

The explosion occurred at around 11:02 AM.
