Puerto Rico-based Seaborne Airlines has officially launched service between the cities of San Juan, Puerto Rico and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

The new service began operations on April 15, according to the company. It includes twice-daily service, departing San Juan at 8 AM and 3:45 PM and departing Santo Domingo at 10 AM and 5:45 PM, respectively.

“San Juan to Santo Domingo provides another access point to the US market and reinforces the importance of Puerto Rico as a connecting point in the Caribbean,” said Gary Foss, president and CEO of Sea Star Holdings, the parent company of Seaborne Airlines.
The new service is the latest addition in a major expansion push for the airline, which relocated its headquarters from St Croix to San Juan following an agreement with the government of Puerto Rico.

Since the beginning of the year, Seaborne has added new service from San Juan to St Maarten and San Juan to St Kitts as well.

In total, the carrier serves 18 airports in the Caribbean.

The relocation deal included an equity stake for Puerto Rico’s government in the airline.
