A new health centre and antiretroviral treatment facility has opened in Cite L’Eternel in Martissant, Haiti.

The inauguration ceremony for the new Foundation for the Development of the Haitian Family clinic was attended by United States Ambassador Pamela White.

The ambassador, who had spent time in the area 20 years ago while working for USAID, said she had seen what she called “commendable” efforts made to make health care more accessible in Haiti, despite natural disasters in the country.

“The example of FONDEFH and several other health institutions who work tirelessly to improve and strengthen health care for the needy and vulnerable is an eloquent testimony,” she said. “The US government is pleased to join these efforts.”

The Ambassador concluded her visit with a trip to the police station of Portail Leogane.

“I want to reaffirm to the people of Martissant, and the members of community organizations working in the area, the solidarity of the American people and the willingness of the US government to support the Haitian government to allow Martissant [to] continue to move towards stability and progress,” White said.
